Yeam Do-Yi

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to determine the patient¢¥s right; to identify the patient¢¥s needs of the patient right; to determine the specific item of the Patient¢¥s right which should be satisfied by nurse.
One hundred and eighteen subjects were collected among adult patient¢¥s being admitted in medical and surgical area of one national university hospital.
Date were collected from December, 1983 to February, 1984 using questionnaires and interviews. On the bases of these data the following findings were observed;
1) Among the eighteen items on the patient right, the items which the most patients agree are "Patient has the right to expect reasonable continuity of care"; 97.5% of total respondents agree to the item, "The patient has the right to expect that the hospital will provide a mechanism where by he is informed by physician or a delegate of the physician of the patient¢¥s continuing health care requirements following discharge (94.1%)", "The patient has the right to obtain from his physician complete current information concerning his prognosis in terms the patient can be reasonably expected to understand (94. 1%) ", and "The patient has the right to receive from his physician information necessary to give informed consent prior to the start of any procedure and/or treatment (92.4%) ". Although the items to which the most patients disagree are "The patient has the right to every consideration of his privacy concerning his own medical care program"; i.e., 61% of total respondents disagree to the item, "Medical care program is confidential and should be conducted discreetly (52.5%)", and Where medically significant alternatives for care or treatment exist, or when the patient requests information concerning medical alternatives, the patient has the right to such information (50.0%) .
2) Two items of patient right which have significant difference in sexual distribution of respondents; "The patient has the right to every consideration of his privacy concerning his own medical care program" and "The patient has the right to expect that all communications and records pertaining to his care should be treated as confidential" Male patients agree more than female patient to two items of patient right. (p<0.05)
3) Only one item has significant difference in the distribution by the experience of operation: "The patient has the right to every consideration of his privacy concerning his own medical care program". The patients who have not the experience of operation agree more to the item than who have. (p<0.05)
